Lake Arrowhead, CA — Dallas, TX Well, we made it. To Dallas anyway. We left Lake Arrowhead yesterday at about 11 am PST and got here today at 3 pm CST. We stopped in Thousand Palms, CA for our last In-N-Out burgers, maybe forever. Berck drove till right before we hit Phoenix about 5 pm MST. Then I drove through rush hour traffic, on past firefighters putting out a car totally consumed by flames, into the night and the rain. We had decided to continue driving through the night because it had gotten unbearably hot in the desert during the…
San Jose, CA Well, we visited the miracle welder this morning. We got in to San Jose a bit after 1 last night, then stayed up till 4 chatting with Brandon and Stephen. Brandon just got a job with Google doing network security. Stephen has decided that to write well he’ll have to stop writing for the film industry. Berck drove yesterday until it got dark; then I drove the rest of the way. We’d been up since 5:30 a.m. We finally got some sleep 22 hours later. We slept for a few hours and then got up to head…

We got a good laugh out of those until we saw another local brand, who makes Polygamy Porter (“Why have just one”). We ended up with two large bottles, one a rather stout stout…
Well, the engine still squeaks, even after a new water pump and timing belt pulleys. We’re out of ideas.
There hasn’t been much to journal about lately except depressing car repair news. We took apart the Miata, replaced the water pump, put everything back together, and the noise that was the cause of all this ruckus in the first place still remained. It wasn’t all a loss, since the water pump did have a bad bearing and could have used replacing anyhow. So we ordered the next part that could be the problem (timing belt pulleys) on Friday and have been waiting the weekend for UPS to deliver the package. Assuming it will arrive later today, we took the…
