After going to bed about ten last night, we got up at 3:30 am, showered, packed the car, and left in an hour. Memphis was 18 hours away, and we wanted to get there before midnight. Looking for breakfast in Lamar about three hours later, we missed our turn to Kansas and instead found ourselves in Oklahoma. No problem, it wasn’t any further to go our new alternate route. (After traveling this route three times in a week a year ago, you would think that I would wonder why it didn’t seem familiar. That’s because we had taken that route…
Berck had a three-day weekend (because of that glorious of all holidays, Columbus Day). He also has this coming Friday off. But he has to work Saturday the next day. We traveled down to Pueblo on Friday evening for dinner with Berck’s buddy from work who just got a job down there teaching ROTC students how to fly. They served us a huge pile of homemade wontons. Berck and I love wontons, but we’re used to eating maybe two at a time from a Chinese restaurant. We did our best but still couldn’t finish the pile. And they were better…

It’s not one of the most impressive passes, but is still a rather steep climb. It’s one of the more traveled passes, and the road is 4 lanes. Strangely, the speed limit going up is 35mph, where the speed limit going down is 55mph. This doesn’t make a lot of sense, especially considering how easy it is to get into trouble going downhill,…
After having had breakfast in Idaho this morning, we are back home in Colorado Springs tonight. We mostly wandered around western Montana. Maybe we’ll have time to write about it soon. But for now, both of us have to be at work in the morning.
A whole week off! Actually, a whole week plus two days. That’s what Berck gets for winter vacation. Berck’s mom came to visit for first half of it, but that still left five days to do whatever we wanted. A road trip? Or just driving up into the mountains and camping? The Rocky Mountains were our oyster. Unfortunately, the Miata’s master brake cylinder started leaking, as Berck noticed (as he is wont to do, staring at the engine with the hood up, waiting for things to go wrong). The parts got here on Thursday, so we spent the next two…
