{"id":731,"date":"2006-07-26T21:17:25","date_gmt":"2006-07-27T03:17:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nachzen.net:8080\/?p=731"},"modified":"2006-07-26T21:17:25","modified_gmt":"2006-07-27T03:17:25","slug":"isaiah-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nachzen.net\/?p=731","title":{"rendered":"Isaiah 23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> A Prophecy About Tyre<\/p>\n<p> 1 An oracle concerning Tyre:<br \/>\n       Wail, O ships of Tarshish!<br \/>\n       For Tyre is destroyed<br \/>\n       and left without house or harbor.<br \/>\n       From the land of Cyprus<br \/>\n       word has come to them.<\/p>\n<p> 2 Be silent, you people of the island<br \/>\n       and you merchants of Sidon,<br \/>\n       whom the seafarers have enriched.<\/p>\n<p> 3 On the great waters<br \/>\n       came the grain of the Shihor;<br \/>\n       the harvest of the Nile was the revenue of Tyre,<br \/>\n       and she became the marketplace of the nations.<\/p>\n<p> 4 Be ashamed, O Sidon, and you, O fortress of the sea,<br \/>\n       for the sea has spoken:<br \/>\n       &#8220;I have neither been in labor nor given birth;<br \/>\n       I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> 5 When word comes to Egypt,<br \/>\n       they will be in anguish at the report from Tyre.<\/p>\n<p> 6 Cross over to Tarshish;<br \/>\n       wail, you people of the island.<\/p>\n<p> 7 Is this your city of revelry,<br \/>\n       the old, old city,<br \/>\n       whose feet have taken her<br \/>\n       to settle in far-off lands?<\/p>\n<p> 8 Who planned this against Tyre,<br \/>\n       the bestower of crowns,<br \/>\n       whose merchants are princes,<br \/>\n       whose traders are renowned in the earth?<\/p>\n<p> 9 The LORD Almighty planned it,<br \/>\n       to bring low the pride of all glory<br \/>\n       and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.<\/p>\n<p> 10 Till your land as along the Nile,<br \/>\n       O Daughter of Tarshish,<br \/>\n       for you no longer have a harbor.<\/p>\n<p> 11 The LORD has stretched out his hand over the sea<br \/>\n       and made its kingdoms tremble.<br \/>\n       He has given an order concerning Phoenicia<br \/>\n       that her fortresses be destroyed.<\/p>\n<p> 12 He said, &#8220;No more of your reveling,<br \/>\n       O Virgin Daughter of Sidon, now crushed!<br \/>\n       &#8220;Up, cross over to Cyprus;<br \/>\n       even there you will find no rest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> 13 Look at the land of the Babylonians,<br \/>\n       this people that is now of no account!<br \/>\n       The Assyrians have made it<br \/>\n       a place for desert creatures;<br \/>\n       they raised up their siege towers,<br \/>\n       they stripped its fortresses bare<br \/>\n       and turned it into a ruin.<\/p>\n<p> 14 Wail, you ships of Tarshish;<br \/>\n       your fortress is destroyed!<\/p>\n<p> 15 At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a king&#8217;s life. But at the end of these seventy years, it will happen to Tyre as in the song of the prostitute:<\/p>\n<p> 16 &#8220;Take up a harp, walk through the city,<br \/>\n       O prostitute forgotten;<br \/>\n       play the harp well, sing many a song,<br \/>\n       so that you will be remembered.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> 17 At the end of seventy years, the LORD will deal with Tyre. She will return to her hire as a prostitute and will ply her trade with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. 18 Yet her profit and her earnings will be set apart for the LORD; they will not be stored up or hoarded.
