Lava

A little ways into our hike, we met a couple of European hikers. Berck thought they were Austrian; I figured they were Swiss. They didn't look very happy. They asked if we were going to the summit. When we answered yes, one of them said, "Oh, you've started too late." It was 1:40 p.m. and 3.4 miles to the caldera at the top. "It will probably take you 5 hours to get there and 3 hours to get back." Berck told them we'd only hike a couple hours and then hike back, which satisfied them.
