I’ve been whiling away the days here in Florida. Since my uncle wanted some help with his office computers and offered to pay me nicely, I agreed to come work for two weeks. I took some time getting down here, so I don’t think it’s actually going to be two weeks. Right now I’m planning on heading back to Mobile on Sunday morning. I don’t like Florida. I came out of the office my first day of working to discover that the skies had opened and deposited large amounts of water in my car. It was a beautiful day when…
It’s two weeks from today. I can’t decide to call the whole thing off or make a run for Vegas. Weddings are way too complicated. My sister had some words of wisdom back when this whole process began, though she had just found out she was pregnant, so she might not have said this (especially in front of our mother) otherwise: “Remember, weddings are like funerals. They’re not for you; they’re for the people who love you.” Right now all the people who love me are driving me crazy. Or is it the liquid Satan (in the form of bc)…
I just finished watching “Iris”, a little film about Iris Murdoch. I didn’t, and still don’t, know much about her. There’s so much attention paid to the beginning and end of love, but almost none to the middle. The movie was set at both the beginning of the beginning and the beginning of the end of Iris’ and her husband’s love.. It ended with the end of the beginning and the end of the end. Why is it that we are so fascinated with beginnings and ends of just about everything, but seem to care so little about middles? It…
I got a hand-addressed envelope today. Those are very rare these days, so I was rather surprised I got one. I don’t know the last time was I got a letter from someone. I guess it was when I was in Rome and e-mail was scarce. Sometimes I’d get real mail sooner. Inside the envelope was a form letter inviting me to join an open house interview thing for a flight attendant job. I’ve applied to probably hundreds of jobs in the past few weeks. I’ve gotten all of ONE rejection, two automated responses and one “We’re considering you” form…
I’m not sure if I I should agree with John Cusack’s character in Hi Fidelity when he asks, “Is this Peter fucking Frampton??” but I’m inclined. Why then, you might ask, am I listening to him? I don’t know. Because he was mentioned in Hi Fidelity? I’ve been wondering about whether or not one should maintain such seemingly private information on the web. But since my last name isn’t used, it would be difficult for a web searcher to turn me up. A search without my last name primarily turns up references to kite-flying events in the plage of Berck…
