After 20 years, WordPress finally broke my custom theme badly enough that I decided to update it with a modern one rather than learn enough PHP to fix the old one. Just know that the slightly more modern look was thrust upon me–I didn’t want it. I hacked this one to make it look as bad as I could. I’m sad because Marginal Revolution has managed to keep their site looking the same for about the same length of time and they’re just a couple of economists. But there’s a limit to the amount of time I’m willing to spend…
Now that ChatGPT does image processing, I wondered how it would do on the Reading the Mind in the Eyes Test. I’m pretty terrible at this test. Even for the ones that I get right, it feels like a random guess. I wish I’d recorded my score the first time I took it, but I can’t seem to find it. Anyway, I was curious how ChatGPT would do. Or if I could even convince it to take the test. It turns out convincing it was pretty easy: ChatGPT scored a 25/36. The guidance provided with the test is: The average…
Has anyone else noticed UPS’s new potato camera? Last year some time, FedEx started sending photos of packages they’d delivered. Because FedEx is truly terrible at delivering packages to me, I’ve found it a useful feature to know that they did indeed leave my package on some random porch that’s not mine. Here’s a sample of a FedEx photo, one of the rare ones that’s actually my porch: UPS started doing the same thing last week. It’s less useful for UPS, because they actually deliver my packages. But the thing I noticed is that the quality of the photos is…
After Erin Kelly (who I didn’t know) died doing it last weekend, I’ve spent some time considering the risk/reward ratio for rally, and it’s unclear to me that the reward is worth the risk. I’ve spent even more time considering the effort/reward ratio, and the results are more confusing. I don’t want to tally the number of weekends I’ve spent in the garage since I bought this car, but it’s an awfully large number of them. Thanks to sneakattackrally.com, it’s pretty easy to tally the amount of time I’ve spent driving it on stage: slightly more than 2 hours. There’s…
Wedgie, Holly, Heather, Nikki, and I went to a rodeo up in Woodland Park yesterday. Evidently, Holly, Wedge, and Max won tickets to it at Cowboys the night before. It was a celebrity rodeo benefitting abused kids, which meant that the competitors were locals, who knew what they were doing, and celebrities, who we’d never heard of. They’d get out in the ring and totally screwed up whatever the event was taking place. One lady, the people sitting near us called “Lori,” competed in some event where a man would run up, grab a young roped steer, and wrestle it…
