I need to write. You’d think that since I’ve had almost nothing to do lately, that I’d be blogging more. But, alas, I’ve been doing almost nothing. We’re winding up the end of the semester. No student I’ve sent to a checkride has failed which is a pretty good record. I’ve soloed a dozen or so students. None of them have died. There’s only one week of flying left, and I’m not sure all the kids are going to finish. Still, we’re running out of work. I don’t think I’ve broken 515 hours yet, which should give you an idea…
I told Joanna that I didn’t really want to see Unforgiven, but rented it for her anyway. What I didn’t remember is that I’d already seen it. Now that I’ve seen it twice, I can state that as far as westerns go, it’s a good one. As for as movies go– I don’t get the big deal. B-. Boogie Nights, a melodramatic look at the porn industry in the ’70s wasn’t as good as we’d thought it would be. Amusing at the beginning, but thoroughly depressing by the end. C. The Good Girl is yet another example of how bad…
Joanna wanted to see Capote, so we did. I’ve read In Code Blood, so there wasn’t a whole lot new for me there. It seems like the man must have been far more interesting than the movie bothered to portray. The plot was weak at best– Hoffman’s portrayal, while clearly technically difficult, seems to be the only thing the movie has going for it. C. She also wanted to see Boys Don’t Cry. I suppose that I have a somewhat odd view of movies, in that I’m really not interested in being pummelled with a constant reminder of how horrible…
We like Bill Murray. We recently watched Rushmore, which I’d give an A-. Joanna liked it “a whole lot” as well. Ben should enjoy it, if he hasn’t already seen it. Next we watched Ed Wood, which wasn’t really a Bill Murray film (he only had a small part), and wasn’t that good. considering that it’s the story of the worst film director of all time, I’m not sure how good it could have been, anyway. We also watched Broken Flowers, which wasn’t in any way bad. But I was expecting really good. And it just wan’t really good. It’s…
The 40 Year Old Virgin is a very funny movie. There are lots of movies out there that have a few funny gags, and you sit through the rest of the film waiting for the next good joke. This is not one of those movies; this film is hilarious for all 133 minutes. Even the deleted scenes are funny. When it was over, I immediately wanted to watch it again to catch the jokes that I didn’t hear the first time because I was laughing so hard. This movie is also incredibly crude. The plot is about sex, obviously, so…
