Dear Berck,

Recently, we announced the loss of 26 CRJ and 10 Dash 8 aircraft from the United Airlines system. As a result of the loss of business, we must continue to reduce our staffing levels.

Due to these circumstances, we find it necessary to furlough you effective December 7, 2009.

A furlough is never an easy decision, and I assure you we have exhausted all of our available options.

Thank you for all your hard work and support. It is our intention to make every effort to recall you from furlough as quickly as possible.
