Browsing through Google News stories tonight, I spotted an article called “San Francisco restaurant known for ‘rudest waiter’ closing.”  Much to my surprise, as soon as I clicked on the link, I thought, “We’ve eaten there!”

I confirmed my suspicion by checking Google Street View, with which you can take an inside tour.  Here’s a view of the sign.

We didn’t know about the restaurant’s legacy when we went.  The rudest waiter even has his own Wikipedia page.

The good news is that the restaurant might have a second chance.

We’ve been talking a lot about how to choose good restaurants lately, since Berck’s favorite economist blogger has just published a book on the subject.  In an article he wrote on how to pick a good place to eat, he explains the why about things that we already knew.

It’s getting easier to find gems with reviews about everything on the Internet and sites like Yelp and Urbanspoon, which are conveniently aggregated under Google Maps.  But it’s always fun to just walk around and find a good spot.

That’s how we found Sam Wo and had a meal we’ve remembered ever since.
