So, now streaking at your high school football game is a sex crime. Which means that you can be forced to register as a sex offender, and no longer live anywhere except, perhaps, under a bridge, or in a make-shift camp out in the woods (but not for long). It turns out, you can’t even go to church. How many kids do we have to charge as sex offenders in order to save our kids from themselves? Or how about how many innocent people do we have to kill before we realize that our justice system isn’t good enough to be trusted with killing people? You crazy conservative Christian freaks, are you proud of the mess you’ve created? Is this what you wanted? This is the age of reason and compassion in the best of the modern, developed world? Really, this is the best we can do?

I’d like to point out that the bridge is in Miami, which is and always has been extremely liberal. The mayor is an “independent,” but he apparently hasn’t been gone from the Democratic party too long, since he spoke at the DNC convention last year. In Florida, the state law is strict, but in Miami, the city rules are even stricter.

Atlanta, the site of another camp in the wood for sex offenders (http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-09-28-sex-offenders_N.htm) is also notoriously a stronghold for Democrats. There hasn’t been a Republican mayor since 1879.

The sex-offender laws are at the state level, not local, which in both of those places have been very Republican for some time.

The sex offender law in Florida is 1000 feet. In Miami it’s 2500 feet. 2500 feet is two and a half times 1000 feet. Therefore, the rule in Miami (local) is more strict than the Florida rule (state).
