Where He is Tonight

Where He is Tonight is the latest new recording of an old song. Since you guys so often draw incorrect (or at least unsubstantiated) conclusions, I feel compelled to point out that Jonah wrote this song in 2000, long before we were married.

Like everything filed under this category, Jonah wrote the music and the lyrics, played the (fake) piano, and sung the vocals. Todd has worked his magic science on this track as well. I’m not sure of everything that he does, but I can tell you that the songs sound pretty rough, I send them to him, and he makes them sound great. He mixes, tweaks, smooths, and pitch-corrects.

Jonah plays a Studiologic SL-990XP keyboard. The piano sound is from Art Vista’s Virtual Grand Piano. It was recorded on an Apple MacBook with GarageBand. Todd uses a Macbook, Apple’s Logic Studio, and things that are not voodoo, but seem that way to me.

More to come soon! There’s a couple more that Ben recorded, and I’ll get around to buying a microphone one of these days…

Twenty-three

Here’s Twenty-three, a new recording. This one’s different… it’s got vocals!

It’s been awhile coming. Back in October, Ben brought some recording equipment to Colorado and recorded a few songs, including this one. It wasn’t until recently that I finally got around to legally purchasing the good piano sound so we could install it on Jonah’s Macbook. Until then all we had on the Mac was the dinky piano that comes with GarageBand, which wasn’t really suitable for distribution.

That done, it still didn’t sound terribly good, so I sent it to a professional: Todd! Todd does this sort of thing for a living, and was able to make it sound really nice, I think. Thanks, Todd!
