Oops.

Nachzen.net was unavailable last night because I’m silly. It turns out that amusing things happens when you build a DNS server and DHCP server on different boxes, and then list the hostnames in the DHCP server table. It turns out that the DHCP server won’t start until it can resolve the hostnames, which will never happen when the DNS server is busy asking the DHCP server what it’s IP address is.

The amusing thing is, it’s been set up this way for a very long time, but I’ve never turned both machines off and back on at the same time. As long as the other one was already up, things were good. I turned them off last night to service a UPS that was complaining about its battery.

White House Fellows

Two of my bosses’ sons got selected as regional finalists in the prestigious White House Fellows program. Today they found out that they were not selected as national finalists.

So Max will be moving down to Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, AL in May, and Eli doesn’t know what he’ll do after the Olympics in August. He may start up his own business. He’s out of the Air Force currently on active duty reserve training full time in Modern Pentathlon.

More good news about chocolate…

A recent study indicates that pregnant women should eat chocolate… every day

Editor’s Note:

I would like to point out to everyone, who seems to think I’m expecting because of the above post, that I’m not. I have a track record of pointing out the virtues of chocolate, and this particular study seemed extremely important, especially since I know people who would benefit immediately from this news. Eating dark chocolate every day will lengthen your life, yes, but you have to go through the trouble of eating it every day for the rest of your life. This study shows immense benefit of eating chocolate 5 times a week only through the duration of your pregnancy, which is only a few months.

After posting this, I decided the message of the article was so important I then e-mailed it to all the pregnant people I care about as well.

I can assure you all that, if one of these days I do find myself with child, I will dutifully eat chocolate every day.

And pickles.
